About Seaworld Group

Seaworld Senior Management consists of:
Vaishnav Puri – Chairman & Managing Director
B.Com, AICS (London)

Mr. Vaishnav Puri has been in the liner shipping business for almost five decades and is considered to be one of the best professionals in the Indian shipping industry and is well known globally, with an enviable track record of having secured and handled representation of some of the largest liner shipping companies in the world. His distinguished liner shipping career started off in mid 1960s as a line manager with Nedlloyd, who then had as many as 8 to 10 sailings a month from Indian ports to worldwide destinations. Nedlloyd wound up their own office in early 1970s and invited Volkarts (since renamed Patvolk) to handle their representation and resultantly, Mr. Puri joined Volkarts in a senior management position when he also got an opportunity of handling liner services of some of the major ship owners in the world viz. Maersk, Hoegh, CGM, Nedlloyd, Lloyd Triestino.
In mid 1970s, he initiated the process of developing his own organization which went on to represent some of the largest liner shipping companies in the world, including NOL/APL and Contship/CP Ships etc. In early 1990s, the relationship with NOL/APL culminated in a joint venture wherein Mr. Puri held a 49% stake in NOL/APL (India) and headed the local agency network as Executive Chairman.
At one stage, in the late 1990s/early 2000s when Mr. Puri was heading both Samrat/Seaworld and NOL/APL organizations, he was responsible for generating/handling almost 20% of India's total containerized traffic which clearly reflected the marketing and operational strength of the group (during all these years, a leading market share was developed and maintained in major trade lanes for all the principals represented by the Group).
The relationship with NOL/APL eventually came to an end essentially due to a clash of interest between the principals represented by Seaworld and NOL/APL (India-USA Service), whereafter in 2001, the joint venture ended most amicably.
Mr. Puri's significant contribution to the maritime industry, and particularly liner business, has not only been recognized by the industry but also the Indian and Singaporean governments as would be obvious from the following positions held by him spread over four decades.
• Lifetime Achievement Award From Mumbai and Nhava Sheva Ship-Intermodel Agents Association for contribution to the shipping industry (private sector) in 2017.

About Seaworld-Samrat Organisations:

Seaworld-Samrat Group is owned/managed by the Puri Family. The Groups main focus/strength has been liner shipping and Mr. Puri is considered to be one of the most respected/successful professional in this field in India, with an enviable track record of having represented some of the largest liner shipping companies in the world, including NOL/APL in the capacity of Executive Chairman and majority stakeholder in the joint venture for their Indian network for almost two decades.

Simultaneously, the Puri Group developed a totally dedicated agency network for Contship and later CP Ships. At one stage, in the late 1990s / early 2000s when Mr. Puri was heading both the organizations, he was responsible for generating/handling almost 20% of Indias total containerized traffic which clearly reflected the market strength of the Group (during all these years, a leading market share was developed and maintained in major trade lanes for all the principals represented by the Group).

India has, over the years, emerged as a large trader in bulk commodities e.g. coal, iron ore, manganese ore, agriculture products and crude oil/petroleum etc. Foreseeing such potential, Seaworld have, in the last decade or so, diversified into the field of handling tramp business (dry and liquid bulk vessel) also and have already been very successful in developing/maintaining a significant volume of business to be able to retain its prominence as one of the largest shipping agency houses, representing several leading ship owners and traders in the world, with an average monthly traffic of about 200 vessels/calls i.e. about 2,500 vessels/calls per annum. In a service industry, it is most important to develop a strong and professional management team and this is what has been responsible for Seaworlds continued success in providing total satisfaction to their clients in India and principals abroad.

2014 was certainly an eventful year for me, personally. In April, I celebrated my 70th birthday; in May, I completed 50 years in the shipping industry; and in September, I was bestowed with the Lifetime Achievement Award (Shipping Private Sector) by a leading trade journal.

The only measure of success in a service oriented industry, like shipping, is achievement of consistently high level of customer satisfaction, and I have always kept myself, and also colleagues, reminded of a slogan displayed on my desk, over all these years, that reads to succeed one must do the right things often enough and long enough.

I sincerely hope and wish that Seaworld Group would, incessantly, endeavour to maintain a consistently result oriented approach in handling business of their shipping principals and clients, as hitherto, in the coming years, as well.

Regards,

Vaishnav Puri
